Category: Comparisons
Compare a Lloyd Loom armchair and a galvanised steel carver chair on material, weather resistance and comfort to choose the right outdoor seat for your garden.
Quick answer
Choose the Ledbury Lloyd Loom Armchair for a sheltered garden room or sun trap where comfort and a softer look matter most; choose the Sudbury Garden Carver Chair for an exposed patio or dining set that must withstand wind, rain and shine without covering.
Material and weather exposure
The Ledbury is handcrafted from sustainable rattan with a moss green finish, so it belongs where it is protected from prolonged damp. The Sudbury is handmade from hot-dipped galvanised steel at a small British workshop and is designed to withstand wind, rain and shine with no covering up. That makes the Sudbury the lower-maintenance choice for an open lawn or patio, while the Ledbury rewards a little shelter with a warmer, woven texture.
Comfort and seating role
The Ledbury is a lounge-oriented armchair for days lounging in a garden room, and it pairs with the Ledbury Armchair Cushion for extra comfort. The Sudbury is a carver chair built for pulling up to a dining table for an al fresco feast; it pairs with the matching Sudbury Dining Table and Sudbury Dining Chair Cushions, both sold separately. If you want a seat to sink into with a drink, the Ledbury is the more natural fit; if you want a seat that works around a table, the Sudbury is the better shape.
Floor protection and placement
The Ledbury's feet are fitted with nylon glides to protect your floors, which matters if the chair lives on a wooden deck, tiled conservatory or painted garden-room floor. The Sudbury's galvanised steel frame is the more forgiving choice on uneven or exposed ground where furniture is left out year-round. Neither chair is supplied with a cushion as standard, so budget for the matching cushion if comfort is a priority.
Key trade-offs to weigh
- Weather resistance vs. woven comfort: The Sudbury's galvanised steel needs no covering and handles rain and shine; the Ledbury's rattan is better kept in a sun trap or garden room. If the chair will sit in the open all year, choose the Sudbury. Decide first whether the chair will be permanently exposed or sheltered.
- Lounge seat vs. dining seat: The Ledbury is an armchair for lounging with a drink; the Sudbury is a carver chair for pulling up to a dining table. Match the chair to the table or corner it will serve. Buy for the setting, not just the look.
- Cushion and floor protection extras: The Ledbury pairs with its own armchair cushion and has nylon glides to protect floors; the Sudbury pairs with Sudbury Dining Chair Cushions and a matching table, all sold separately. Factor these add-ons into your budget. Check what is included before comparing prices.
